Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 60 | Run: 35 | Arm: 55 | Field: 45 | Overall: 50
Eric Jagielo was the first college player the New York Yankees took in the 1st round since 2001. As you can see by his scouting grades, he has good power. Being a lefty, his good power is perfect for Yankee Stadium. He also has good plate discipline, walking 41 times in 332 ABs. At the moment Jagielo has to work on reducing his high strikeout rate, and improving his defense. Jagielo should start the season in Trenton (Double-A), and could be with the team in mid 2016.
Being that the Yankees locked up Chase Headley to a 4 year $52M deal earlier in the offseason, Jagielo has time to develop his skills and become a major league ready player. If he does, he would be the first 1st round pick to impact the big league club since Joba Chamberlain, Jagielo had a slash line of .256/.351/.461. MLB.com has him listed as the 3rd best Yankees Prospect. I am not sure if that is the appropriate spot to place him, but being that the Yankees only have one homegrown player on the roster it would be nice to see more come up in the next few years.
