With a team that has been around for over a century, you can imagine there are plenty of players’ birthdays each day. On this day there are four former Yankees who are celebrating their birthdays today. You may not have heard of all of them, but each one had a moment to shine with the team.
Today is the 31st birthday of former Yankee Dioner Navarro. At a time when Jesus Montero was just 16, Dioner Navarro was the Yankees top catching prospect. He was one of the prospects the Yankees surrendered in a Jan 2005 trade with the D-Backs, in which the team acquired HOF Randy Johnson. Navarro would go onto to play with 5 other teams after starting his career with the Yankees, he currently plays for the Blue Jays.
Happy 47th birthday to Robert Eenhoorn. Robert spent the bulk of his time in the Yankees organization as a minor league infielder throughout the 90’s. Playing in 37 games over the course of 4 seasons with the Yankees and Angels, Eenhoorn was out of baseball after 1998.
Happy 78th birthday to Clete Boyer. The brother of Cloyd and Ken Boyer, Clete played 16 seasons in the major leagues. Boyer was a part of the ’61 and ’62 WS champion NY Yankees, and also played in the ’60, ’63 and ’64 World Series. Clete hit .318 in the ’62 WS victory over the San Francisico Giants, and got a Gold Glove with the Braves in 1969. Clete Boyer died in 2007, at the age of 70.
Happy 113th Birthday to Julie Wera. Wera died in 1975, and played parts of 2 seasons with the team. Julie Wera played in 35 games for the 1927 Murderer’s Row.
